Our Associational WMU tried something new that not only reignited excitement but also strengthened our connections and expanded our mission efforts. We hosted a Breakfast of Appreciation for all our associational WMU leaders—a gathering that became a cornerstone for encouragement, collaboration, and outreach.

A New Tradition: Honoring Leaders

The idea for the breakfast came from a simple desire to say “thank you” to our WMU leaders. These women work tirelessly in their churches, often behind the scenes, to promote missions and disciple others. Hosting a special breakfast allowed us to show our appreciation in a tangible way while also giving everyone a chance to connect.

Leaders from active WMUs across the association were invited, along with those from churches without active groups, creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. The turnout exceeded our expectations, filling the room with energy, laughter, and fellowship.

Encouragement from KY WMU President Linda Cooper

We were honored to have Linda Cooper, President of Kentucky WMU, join us as the keynote speaker. Her message was a powerful reminder of the impact WMU ministries have in Kentucky and beyond. Linda’s enthusiasm was contagious as she shared stories of how WMU efforts change lives and encouraged us to continue spreading the gospel through missions. She also spoke to the heart of our purpose—empowering women to engage with missions in meaningful ways.

Her words left us inspired and eager to take the next steps in growing our associational work.

Strengthening Relationships

One of the most meaningful outcomes of the breakfast was the opportunity to strengthen relationships among our leaders. We discovered shared challenges, exchanged ideas, and celebrated successes. Leaders from smaller churches felt encouraged as they heard stories of what others were doing, and we brainstormed ways to reinvigorate WMUs in churches that had not been active recently.

Through these conversations, we identified potential partnerships and collaborations, which will allow us to work together more effectively in the future.

A Hands-On Mission Project

No WMU gathering would be complete without a missions project! As part of our breakfast, we created beautiful flower bouquets to deliver to a local shut-in. This simple act of service reinforced the heart of WMU: sharing God’s love with others.

The room was filled with the fragrance of fresh flowers as we assembled the bouquets, each one made with care and prayer.

Later that day, we delivered them to a beloved member of our community who has been unable to attend church. Her joy and gratitude reminded us of the power of small, thoughtful gestures in reflecting Christ’s love.

Sparking Growth and New Beginnings

The breakfast also served as a catalyst for growth. By bringing together leaders from both active and inactive WMUs, we encouraged those without current groups to take steps toward reestablishing their ministries. With ideas shared, relationships formed, and Linda Cooper’s inspiring message fresh in their minds, several leaders left with renewed determination to grow their churches’ involvement in missions.

Moving Forward with Excitement

This breakfast was more than just an event; it was the beginning of something bigger. It reminded us that fellowship and appreciation go hand in hand with missions and service. It demonstrated the importance of coming together to encourage one another and sparked excitement that continues to grow.

As we move forward, we’re committed to building on this momentum. Plans are already underway for similar events, new projects, and expanded support for our associational WMU leaders.

Try Something New!

Through intentional efforts like this, we can continue to inspire women across Kentucky to grow in their faith, engage in missions, and make a difference in the lives of others.

Let’s keep the excitement going!

You Are More Than a Facilitator
As a WMU missions group leader, your role reaches far beyond simply guiding participants through a lesson. You are entrusted with shaping hearts and minds for the mission of God. While curriculum provides structure and direction, it is only a tool—never the destination. The true goal is discipleship: nurturing lives that reflect Christ and actively engage in His mission. Each gathering you lead carries profound purpose. It is an opportunity to help individuals develop a biblical worldview, one that influences how they interpret life, make decisions, and relate to others. It is also a chance to cultivate a deep and lasting heart for missions, fostering compassion and awareness for God’s work both locally and globally. Most importantly, every meeting should inspire action—encouraging participants not just to learn, but to live out their faith in tangible ways. I saw this come to life with one of the girls in my missions class. After learning how to share the gospel, she took a simple tract with her to the playground. There, in her everyday environment, she found the courage to practice what she had learned, sharing the message of Jesus with her friends. That moment was not about completing a lesson—it was about equipping and and discipling someone into a life of living on mission. It can be easy to measure success by whether the lesson was completed. However, the more meaningful measure lies in transformation. Did it change how they see and live on mission? Remember, you are not just a facilitator—you are a disciple-maker and a catalyst for mission-minded living.

What Joy! 2026 Missions Celebration
Our Annual Meeting was an encouraging and energizing weekend, with 314 attendees gathering for worship, celebration, and renewed vision. We were inspired by keynote messages from Angie Crawford, JoAnn and Andrew Mann, and Diana and Jimmy Bledsoe, whose stories reminded us of the impact of faithful service both locally and globally. Throughout the weekend, participants connected with Eliza Broadus Offering–sponsored ministries featured in the 2026–27 Season of Prayer emphasis, explored the EBO Kids Corner, and enjoyed fellowship at Eliza’s Café. Attendees also learned practical ways to partner with Kentucky Baptist Convention ministries and agencies, strengthening relationships that support Kingdom work across our state and beyond. Pam Polkey was honored as the 2026 Missionary of the Year, and outgoing President Linda Cooper was recognized for her leadership. New KentuckyWMU board members and officers were elected, providing motivation to prioritize the mission.
