Imagine if girls in all of our churches truly gained an understanding of what it means to be “obediently involved in the mission of God.” To be intentional in every aspect of their lives to advance the kingdom of God. WMU provides resources to help guide young girls to a greater understanding of God’s work in the world and how they can join Him in His work. We are here to support you whether you lead a missions discipleship group or simply want ideas to engage the world.
MISSIONS DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS for girlsGirls in Action® (GAs) is an exciting and fun-filled missions discipleship group for girls ages 6-11 or grades 1-6. This provides an environment for active learning, scripture learning, and scriptural application through a Christ-based peer and prayer group for girls. GAs also serves as an opportunity for girls to develop leadership skills and engage in missions. Through learning experiences that teach the Biblical basis of missions churches have a great way to start a girls’ ministry in your local church.

MISSIONS DISCIPLESHIP EMPHASES
Girls will learn how to demonstrate the missions concepts of learning, praying, giving and doing missions. GAs cultivates an atmosphere of acceptance for girls and offers opportunities for parents to serve. This level of missions discipleship will help create an awareness of their role in the Great Commission and prompt a spirit of Gospel urgency. .
Learn
Learning about missions involves girls in experiences that increase their awareness and knowledge of missions. Learning experiences help girls develop understanding, appreciations, attitudes, and skills for doing, telling, supporting, and praying for missions. Outcome: Girls are led to explore with growing understanding the nature, implications, and evidences of God's missionary purpose and to respond to that purpose in personal commitment and obedience. Pray
Pray for missions helps girls understand that apart of our prayer life includes intercessory prayer for the advancement of the gospel. This type of praying is communication with God on behalf of missions work; the people involved in doing it; and the people who need to know and accept God's redeeming love. Outcome: Girls will be able to learn how to apply the Bible to their lives and learn how to pray and intercede for others. Give (Support)
To Give to/Support missions means to promote an interest in the cause of missions and those involved in missions in order to fulfill the mission of God. Girls support missions through emphasizing the need for individuals to become involved in mission service and nurturing those who God calls to mission service. Through this characteristic, girls show concern for others by supporting missionaries, missions partners, and missions work through their giving and encouragement. Outcome: Girls will support missions in practical ways through their church. Engage (Do&Tell)
Girls will learn that Engage in Missions is a combined approach to both "doing & telling". Doing redemptive, loving service for people of special need or circumstance in the name and spirit of Christ and sharing the gospel with them. Doing missions is also a response to social and moral issues. Telling about Jesus challenges girls to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with another person and giving that person an opportunity to confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Outcome: Girls will have practical (child-aged) opportunities to put their faith to action through practical missions projects and evangelism opportunities. |
What leaders are saying...
"We currently have 15 girls in GA. For many of them their moms were not raised in a Southern Baptist church so they had no background in missions education. So while my GAs are learning about missions, their moms are as well. Our pastor's wife in particular has begun reading mission books and she was excited to read Rosalie Hunt's book on the 125 year history of WMU. I have given her a subscription to Missions Mosaic. One other mom who was raised as Independent Baptist rode with me to GA JAM last year. We talked about missions the entire time down and back and she was like a sponge soaking up info. My moms love going to GA JAM and I usually have several to go. Right now the moms are on my radar screen as well as my girls."
