Imagine if teenagers in all of our churches truly gained an understanding of what it means to be “obediently involved in the mission of God.” To be intentional in every aspect of their lives to advance the kingdom of God. WMU provides resources to help guide teen guys to a greater understanding of God’s work in the world and how they can join Him in His work. We are here to support you whether you lead a missions discipleship group or simply want ideas to engage teenagers to be a gospel light in the world.
MISSIONS DISCIPLESHIP for youth groupsMissions discipleship for youth groups (grades 7-12) guides them to look beyond themselves and become actively involved in missions and ministry. What happens in missions discipleship doesn’t just stay within the walls of the church; teenagers are challenged to live their lives openly for Christ in a very authentic and influential way. They grow to see that God can use them every day in countless ways to change their world.
Incorporating Missions Discipleship in your on-going student ministry program or beginning a missions small group, takes your students on one more step to understand their role in the Great Commission. |
MISSIONS DISCIPLESHIP EMPHASES
Teens will learn how to demonstrate the missions concepts of learning, praying, giving and doing missions. Student Missions Groups challenges teenagers towards growth and accountability; and offers opportunities for parents to serve. This level of missions discipleship will help create an awareness of their role in the Great Commission and prompt a spirit of Gospel urgency.
Learn
Learning about missions involves teens in experiences that increase their awareness, knowledge of missions, and develops their skills/abilities to serve. Learning experiences help teen boys develop understanding, appreciations, attitudes, and skills for doing, telling, supporting, and praying for missions. Outcome: Teens are led to explore with growing understanding the nature, implications, and evidences of God's missionary purpose and to respond to that purpose in personal commitment and obedience. They will begin to recognize their place in the Kingdom of God and how they can impact their community for the Gospel in their context. Pray
Pray for missions helps teens understand that apart of our prayer life includes intercessory prayer for the advancement of the gospel. This type of praying is communication with God on behalf of missions work; the people involved in doing it; and the people who need to know and accept God's redeeming love. Outcome: Teens will be able to learn how dig deeper into the Word helping them to apply Gospel truth to their everyday lives no matter their circumstances; they will learn to pray using scripture and learn ways to intercede on the behalf of others. Give (Support)
To Give to/Support missions means to promote an interest in the cause of missions and those involved in missions in order to fulfill the mission of God. Teens support missions through emphasizing the need for individuals to become involved in mission service and nurturing those who God calls to mission service. Through this characteristic, boys show concern for others by supporting missionaries, missions partners, and missions work through their giving and encouragement. Outcome: Teens will support missions in practical ways through their church. They will understand that supporting missionaries and missions causes involve both time and financial resources. They will also understand that importance of "cooperative" giving as encouraged by our denomination. Engage (Do & Tell)
Teens will learn that Engage in Missions is a combined approach to both "doing & telling". Doing redemptive, loving service for people of special need or circumstance in the name and spirit of Christ and sharing the gospel with them. Doing missions is also a response to social and moral issues. Telling about Jesus challenges girls to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with another person and giving that person an opportunity to confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Outcome: Teens will have practical opportunities to put their faith to action through missions projects and evangelism opportunities. They will begin to see mission trips as ways they can live on mission in their own community and they will learn to develop their awareness to make the Great Commission priority. |
