Change a Life...Change the World

Let's Talk Camp

How to Prepare Your Child for Camp

1.  Make sure your camper has gotten plenty of rest before her arrival at camp. The camp schedule is very busy.  She needs to be well rested!

2.  Check the packing list.  Pack with your child instead of for your child.

3.  Tell your child that you will miss her, but you want her to have a wonderful time.  Don't say things like:  "I don't know how I will ever make it while you're gone!"  Instead, say things like:  "I will miss you at home this week, but I can't wait to here about all the fun things you'll do at camp."

4.  If you think your child might get homesick, don't promise that she can call you.  Cell phones are not allowed.  Stacy, the camp director, will call you if there is a need.  Most campers who do get homesick, end up having a wonderful week.  Be encouraging!  Be willing to let your child develop the skill of being away from home.

5.  Send your camper snail mail.  You may want to send it the week before camp.  Mark the date of your daughter's camp on the envelope to help staff deliver it.

6.  Send your camper with a journal to record her experiences and her thoughts about God.

7.  Pray with your camper before she leaves.  Ask for safety, the ability to make new friends and learn about missions.  If your daughter is not a Christian, pray that she will be sensitive to the Holy Spririt's leading.  We will have a commitment service on Thursday nights.
